The Los Angeles-based heavy metal/hard rock band featuring Tony Campos (SOULFLY, POSSESSED, STATIC-X, ASESINO, MINISTRY) on bass; Evan Seinfeld (BIOHAZARD) on vocals; and songwriter and famed motorcycle builder Rusty Coones on guitar — has inked a North American deal with THC: Music/Rocket Science Ventures. The group entered the studio this week with producer Mudrock (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, GODSMACK) to begin recording its debut album for a summer release.

Video footage of the new lineup of ATTIKA 7 performing the song "Serial Killer" on November 26, 2011 at the Stingfest at Stingers Bar & Night Club in San Bernardino, California can be seen below.

The ATTIKA7 sound "boasts very heavy, down-tuned and melodic harmonies, all the while boasting brutal hooks and grooves," according to a press release. "The band draws from several musical influences, including their own additional projects, and has been compared to the likes of BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA, GODSMACK, PANTERA, and WHITE ZOMBIE. The timeless no-frills songwriting of ATTIKA 7 is set apart from today's homogenized, derivative copycat bands by so many things, but above all: authenticity."

The majority of the ATTIKA7 album was written by lifetime biker and ATTIKA 7 lead guitarist Rusty Coones while serving a seven-year federal prison sentence for a false conviction. Rather than rat on his friends, Rusty used the tension to teach himself how to play guitar in solitary confinement. The passion and street credibility in his lyrics and riffs speak to the underdogs of the world who will not break, will not bend, but stand against forever.

When Rusty called best friend and riding buddy Evan Seinfeld to check in on whether he knew of a singer who could join his band, Evan immediately jumped in without hesitation. Since then, Rusty and Evan have been writing, recording, living and breathing ATTIKA 7 and haven't looked back.

Machine Head have revealed that they are to release a track from their
upcoming as-yet untitled new album on June 19th. Part of the Rockstar
mayhem compilation, the track is to be called 'locust' and will be
available as a digital single here in the UK at all the usual digital
stores.
As well as this, it has been revealed that machine Head's
eagerly-awaited follow-up to The Blackening will be released on
September 26th.
The track rocks in at eight minutes, with Flynn joking, "We still
can't seem to write a damn song under six minutes. But Machine Head
aren't writing music for the radio or MTV. This is for us. This is for
the metalhead who let's music take him on a journey. This for the
metalhead for whom music is the only thing that matters, to whom music
is a savior. The music fan who's going to study every detail of the
artwork, go online and find the lyrics and memorize every word, and
let it take them away from their fucked up life for a while. It's for
the music freak, who maybe just wants to get hammered, air-guitar and
sing at the top of his lungs, and act like an friggin' idiot while
starting a moshpit in their living room with reckless abandon. Because
that's who wrote this song, and that is the only people we care about
connecting with."

After Black Sabbath fired Ozzy Osbourne, their next move was a make-or-break affair. The decision to hire Rainbow/Elf vocalist Ronnie James Dio and proceed in a more “dungeon metal” direction paid off handsomely with this mostly-downtempo epic. The song’s driving vibe was carried onward by both Sabbath and Dio after their separation, and was returned to in glorious fashion when they reunited as Heaven & Hell in the late 2000s. – Peter Hodgson

Metallica took on their first true ballad with “Fade to Black,” off 1984’s Ride the Lightning. The ambitious, epic song showed Metallica bravely paving new directions that would influence the metal genre for years to come. The track grows from an acoustic, minor-key ballad into a electrified mix of thrashy guitars and wraps up with one of the most popular, gut-wrenching guitar solos ever. “Fade to Black,” truly, is the archetypal metal song. – Anne Erickson

Notwithstanding its controversial subject matter, this Slayer classic set a new standard for speed metal when it kicked off the band’s 1986 masterpiece, Reign in Blood. Underscored by pile-driver drums and a thunderous bass line, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman deliver their dual-guitar riffs with machine-line, rapid-fire precision. Monumental in its conjuring of unspeakable brutality, the song comes off as the aural equivalent of a horrific painting. – Russell Hall
